Urk Lighthouse is a lighthouse in Urk at the eastern banks of the IJsselmeer. From 1617 a coal fire was used for the local fishermen as well as for the ships sailing from Amsterdam to the North Sea. The current lighthouse station was established in 1837. The tower was built in 1845 as a round brick tower attached to a keeper's house. A Fresnel lens is still in use. The lighthouse was restored in 1972 and declared a national monument of the Netherlands in 1982. The tower can be visited during guided tours.

    It is a small one but a classic type of Lighthouse and also it is in red and white. Next to the water, in front the lighthouse, there is a fog signal. Both of them are very important for helping the....  more »

    The light house is cute and open Monday to Saturday from 11 to 5 pm for 2 Euros. I would not drive to Urk to see it but when you are where it is nice to go inside.  more »

    Such a nice little town. We were there in early spring and the weather was quite good: sunny but a bit chilly from the wind. We had a stroll along the water and finished it in the nearby harbour. The lighthouse was very cute for the picture :)
