  • I used to walk a lot to Kasteel Hillenraedt. The road had trees on either side. These had Beech Trees on either side. My best friend and I used to go for the Beech Nuts, as they were yummy!!!!!! The Castle is an old one and as far as I can remember, belonged to the same family. The place towards it was all Forest and a lovely, free place to be! I loved it there, if I ever got the chance, as it was nice and quiet apart from the animals. I LOVED the Birds! I would like to know who owns it now and what happened to it? It does have an historical place in my heart, and for the area! As Haven't been there for a long time, and weren't taught about it's History in school, I would love to hear from anyone who knows the whole Family History about the Kasteel and what importance it played in Swalmen. Above all Boekoel, the place where it is. I know Boekoel was part of Swalmen, but I believe the people there would have liked to be on their own. Please, if someone can help me, I'd appreciate it, as I spent many pleasant hours there when I was still young! I wouldn't be surprised that nowadays there'll be a lot more to do in this area, but it has been since 1972 that I was there last. The view was fantastic and a pleasure to see! I suggest that anyone, interested in the local history won't leave it as long as I have. I got started with this, just to find if my grandparents house was still there, to find out it's now the middle of the road! I suppose from one thing comes another. Strange, as I was always bullied, because my dad came from the North of Holland. In those days we didn't belong, certainly not I, because I didn't speak the dialect, or "Plat" as they call it.
  • Beautiful castle, not to be seen but very special that it is still inhabited.
