The Hofje van Bakenes or Bakenesserkamer is a hofje in Haarlem, Netherlands, located between the Bakenessergracht and the Wijde Appelaarsteeg. In the Middle Ages "kamer" or "room" meant house. Usually the houses within a hofje consisted of just one room.Plan my trip to Haarlem with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.
Hofje van Bakenes reviews
These traditional areas are worth a look if you can gain access - they are not all open to the public all the time. They are tranquil and pretty - an oasis in the heart of the town more »
This seems to be the oldest hofje in The Netherlands, initially built in 1395. It counted 20 houses, all of them still inhabited. more »
Cute courtyard originally from the twelfth century. Enter via one the doors from the alleys. It's very peaceful. Just remember people live there.
A private indoor garden is available to visit, upon prior appointment, very well treated. I liked it!
