Brouwerij 't IJ (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌbrʌuʋəˈrɛi ət ɛi]; English: The IJ Brewery) is a small brewery in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is located in a former bath house named Funen, next to the De Gooyer windmill. The brewery was opened by Kaspar Peterson, a former musician, in October 1985 and was one of several small breweries that opened in cities around the Netherlands in response to consumers' dissatisfaction with beer brewed by the larger companies. It brews eight standard beers and three seasonal beers, besides limited edition beers.Put Brouwerij 't IJ and other Amsterdam attractions into our Amsterdam day trip planning website, and watch your holiday take shape.
The brewery allows tours and tastings, and has a pub with an outdoor terrace. It opens from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. but no later, owing to local residents' objections to the noise. It brews in the pub basement and in a building in the nearby Zeeburgerpad. In 2019 it opened a second bar in the Blauwe Theehuis in the Vondelpark.
The brewery's logo features an ostrich, with an egg, and a distant windmill. The brewery is named after the nearby IJ waterbody.

Was looking forward to my visit after such great beer and a great time on my last trip to Amsterdam and this place. However, despite my best efforts to enjoy a beer without too much risk, I was told.... more »

This place is awesome. I went there to try some local beer and the moment I got there I was amazed. The brewery is located besides a windmill that gives the place an amazing atmosphere. They have a beer garden with outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. The beer is fantastic and the place is great to meet new people, locals and tourists. Their snacks are great too! And the staff are super friendly and speak perfect English! I’m definitely coming back here!
Awesome brewery bar with tasty beers. The windmill adds to the picturesque nature especially if you catch it on a good day. The snacks (cheese and meat) are good too. The cheese especially so as it is from the farm that originally takes a waste product from the the brewing process to feed the animals with. Beware though that there is a bit of a rush at opening time, presumably to get hold of the very limited tour tickets. However, although the tour guide is very knowledgeable and it was good to learn about the brewery, the tour is quite short. I therefore think the the low price which includes a small beer is very fair but therefore not a deal breaker if you don't manage to get a tour ticket.
