Nan Province

4.2
Sacred & Religious Sites · Landmarks · History Museums
A remote, northern region bordering Laos, Nan Province centers on the isolated valley of the Nan River. For centuries the formerly independent kingdom of Nan received little contact with the outside world, cut off by the enclosing mountains. The diverse mix of ethnic groups and hill tribes rarely venture outside the valley, giving the region a distinctive culture. Nan Province sightseeing splits more or less evenly between exploring the lush landscape of fertile lowlands and forested mountains (with no fewer than six national parks) and taking in the local customs and way of life. Ornate temples, rich architecture, cultural museums, and long-established villages dot the countryside. Many hill tribes still produce traditional woven fabrics, wooden carvings, and other handicrafts. Our Thailand trip planner allows you to plan your trip to Nan Province and a wealth of other destinations big and small.
