The Thailand-Burma Railway Centre
Discover the sad history of the Thailand-Burma Railway at The Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, an interactive museum dedicated to preserving the story of the railway line in a fair, balanced, non-partisan way. The Empire of Japan built the railway--sometimes known as the Death Railway--in 1943 using forced labor to support its forces in the Burma campaign of World War II. More than 12,600 Allied prisoners of war died during the construction of the line, along with an estimated 90,000 Asian civilian laborers. Learn about the railway's construction and geography, and about the grim working conditions of the laborers, through a combination of reconstructions, interactive displays, videos, artwork, and preserved artifacts. The museum is located next to two cemetaries where laborers were laid to rest. You can plan Kanchanaburi trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

Organized and informative. Well worth the admission charge to spend an hour or two amongst the artifacts. Nice video presentation as well. more »

Well worth a look here. So much information about the Death Railway, lots of original photos and artifacts collected from the POW's. Lots of merchandise and books for sale. more »

This is a very well done museum. The displays are educative and clear, also giving a fuller impression of the railways impact locally and not just for those from the war. The visuals and statues give a good impression of the conditions. The staff and context were very good and the place was reflective. Would recommend.

Deeply impressive and immensely sad to see this history in the flesh so to speak. It is not a big museum bit it does a good job at making to come to life with scenic pieces. All the panels are also in English so that makes it very accessible to everyone.
