Wat Ratchaburana is a Buddhist temple in the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Ayutthaya, Thailand. The temple's main prang is one of the finest in the city. Located in the island section of Ayutthaya, Wat Ratchaburana is immediately north of Wat Mahathat.HistoryWat Ratchaburana was founded in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II of the Ayutthaya Kingdom and built on the cremation site of his two elder brothers. The two brothers had fought to their deaths in a duel for the royal succession to their father Intha Racha.In 1957 the temple's crypt was looted of a large number of Buddha images and gold artifacts. The thieves were later caught, but few of the treasures were recovered. Some that were recovered are now housed in the nearby Chao Sam Phraya Museum. Subsequent excavations of the crypt have uncovered many more rare Buddha images.Architecture and artThe temple's central prang has undergone restoration. Original stucco work can be seen, for example Garuda swooping down on nāga. Other mythical creatures as well as lotus are featured. It was the first ruin we visited as it was only 800meters from our Hotel. It is just across the road from Wat Mahathat. We bought a combi ticket for 220 Baht which gave access to this, and 5 other... more »

honestly really enjoyed my time here! sometimes they’ll check your ticket while going in, but sometimes they don’t so honestly when i was there, there were a few who came in without having to purchase the B50 ticket. either way, B50 or not, it was really worth it. you can go in the tall temple, but be warned that it’s cramped and really smelly. so if you’re claustrophobic, it might not be the place for you. just a note for everyone going in summer: it gets CRAZY hot. like seriously insanely hot. dress light but conservatively, because they honestly judge you if you don’t dress conservatively.

Beautiful, 100% recommended. If you want to visit more than 5 historical places, buy the multiple ticket, it cost TBH 220, it's valid for all the temples and you can use it for 30 days (normally each temple cost TBH 50)
