Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan, Ayutthaya

4.5
Religious Site · Landmark
Part of Ayutthaya Historical Park, Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan represents a Buddhist temple built in the 12th century and features a large, gold, seated Buddha. This particular Buddha image is very important for Thais and Thai-Chinese, who considered it the guardian of mariners. Zheng He, a Chinese Muslim admiral, famously visited this attraction in the 15th century and offered gifts to the temple. Remember to dress respectfully and wear long pants and sleeves. • My first but not my last trip to Thailand. Spent 4 days in Ayutthaya. The various temples there are way beyond anything I could have imagined. this was a stand out among them.  more »
  • For the sheer bright scale of the golden Buddha, I would have this Wat on my list to see in Ayutthaya. We came as part of our riverboat temple tour.  more »
