Amo Zanzibar Tours & Safaris reviews
We did four tours with the agency which were perfect. Snorkeling at Mnemba, cycle at Nungwi, paddle at Mangroves and Jozani forest + butterfly center + eating at village Swahili + canoë at mangroves..... more »
I recently visited Zanzibar with my husband, staying one day in Stone Town and 4 days in Nungwi. After reading the excellent reviews for Amo Zanzibar Tours, I decided to book the Stone Town Heritage..... more »
We did two half day tours with Amo. A Stone Town tour ($60 for two, essentially a guided walk around the town) which was good for getting an idea of the history behind the old town, history of the East African slave trade and an understanding of the local architecture. And then a spice tour ($80 for two), a trip to a local government plantation with a stop for lunch on the way home. I enjoyed seeing a bit of inland Zanzibar and to see the plants behind the spices we eat at home. Our guides were both good and the tours well organised. However, I can't help but feel they were overpriced. $60 for a few hours walking round the town, and yet we still felt vaguely obliged to tip at the end (I wonder what proportion of this $60 makes it to the guide, despite there being very few other tour-related outgoings). Our friendly taxi driver commented he does the spice tour for $35 total (and indeed, we got various guides provided at different stages of the plantation working for tips regardless). While it was good, I'd like to see more offered by Amo for the money they take.
From the outside it looks like a decent professional tours company
