Mt Meru, Arusha National Park

#2 of 18 in Things to do in Arusha National Park
Conquer Mt Meru, Africa's fifth-highest mountain. Its crescent shape comes from a volcanic explosion that completely destroyed one of its sides. As you climb towards the summit, you'll pass through different landscapes and vegetation, including rainforest, shrubland, moorland, and a desert. At lower levels, look for elephants, leopards, or buffaloes, and at the highest point follow a trail around the rim of the caldera. Because of possible animal encounters, you must hike accompanied by a park ranger. • This is a really beautiful trek if you don't dare to do the Kilimanjaro. This mountain had a beautiful view, too.
  • Absolutely loved this place. Hiked it with my dad in 2005. So great. Such good memories.
