The Lin Family Mansion and Garden, Banqiao

At The Lin Family Mansion and Garden, walk through the Chinese-style garden and learn the story of Taiwan’s richest family of rice and tea producers. The garden dates back to 1847 when the family built a house for storing rent crop, with a courtyard and several pavilions. Today, the garden features variously shaped pavilions and mansions, patios and corridors, artificial hills, arched bridges, and several ponds. After some exploration, take a break under the shade of old banyan trees on the bank of the largest pond. For an all-encompassing view of the gardens, climb the open-air platform of the central building--once used by owners to supervise the field workers. • The room was clean and comfortable. It was a great experience to be lucky enough to see the locals dressed in costumes and capturing the view of the Imga Flower Garden.

  • Beautiful garden, with many photo ops. Walking distance from Fuzhong station. It's mostly outdoors so better to go on a non-rainy day. You can jump in on a tour if you want to make your visit more interesting. They tend to tell some jokes in the tours, that are Mandarin mixed with some Taiwanese (since many of the jokes are related to Taiwanese phrases and tones).
  • The largest of the old mansions in Taipei and its great to walk through. A number of different buildings and large gardens which are all quite pretty and peaceful. The main house is only open to join-in tours, but it’s worth a visit with or without doing the tour.
