St. Peterskirche, Zurich

#20 of 315 in Things to do in Zurich
One of the four primary churches in the city's old town, St. Peterskirche represents the first Protestant religious building in the city after the Reformation. Built on the site of a temple of Jupiter, the church was consecrated in 1706. Its steeple houses the largest church clock face in Europe, with a diameter of 8.7 m (28.5 ft). The tower, used as a fire watch post until 1911, is owned by the city, but the nave of the church is owned by the Evangelical parish. Be sure to view the church bells, dating back to 1880, and the carved wooden structures inside. Check opening hours on the website prior to your arrival. • The tower and clock impress with its beauty. Upon entering it seems very simple but after a few minutes you can see beautiful works on the walls and ceiling that are a work of art worth appreciating carefully. It is worth visiting and walking in the vicinity and, if there is time, sitting by its entrance.

Another must-see in Zürich. Towering over the city, you can not miss this clock. The history and the (myth) behind the story of this church and clock provides interesting talk about this place. Most of the buildings in the city are just near each other. Beautiful place to walk around.
  • Distributed over two floors and in summer on the terrace, there is both a large choice of dishes and a large salad buffet. The quality of the food is good for a canteen in my opinion.
