Monte San Salvatore, Lugano

4.7
Stand on the top of Lugano at Monte San Salvatore for panoramic views of the city and the calm blue lake surrounding it. To reach the top, hike or hop on the funicular, which operates seasonally. Stop for a bite at the restaurant at the summit to take advantage of the impressive views from the veranda. You'll find the best vistas from the top of the church, but it's a significant climb. Information tablets identify the surrounding mountains, so you'll be able to tell when you're looking at the legendary Matterhorn. Open seasonally, please check website for up-to-date information and departure location. • With the weather was lucky-it was sunny and warm. From the mountain opens a very beautiful view, several viewpoints give the opportunity to examine the landscape from different angles. We went up with the opening of the funicular-practically there were no other tourists, you could enjoy the reliefs in silence) Sometimes the funicular is not scheduled, at least from the top point. P.S. to leave the local parking needs a badge. You can buy it at the cashier.

  • We went to Lugano in spring time, it was a bit cold but the sky was blue almost time. This was a peaceful and nice place. The church there was beautiful as well.  more »

  • Price is 25 francs per person Last trip going up is at 4:30 pm and last return time is at 5:00 pm, if you miss it you will return down by foot. A must place to visit if you’re in lugano 👍🏼
  • Amazing views. While the funicular offers the most civilized access (when operational), the summit is best approached via the footpath from Ciona (blessed with both Postbus service and a parking area) which is moderately challenging but extraordinarily rewarding in natural beauty and views....
