Very nice view from the room. Everywhere you look you can see the glacier or other peaks including the Jungfrau and Matterhorn. We have walked to the top of the Eggishorn which is pretty good to do even though the first piece was a bit exciting due to vertigo. We walked back to Fiescheralp and had a lovely dinner on the terrace before we took a lift to Fiesch again. Absolutely recommended.
Il y a des choses où l'on se dit "j'ai de la chance de pouvoir vivre ce moment", le glacier d'Aletsch fait partie de ces moments. Aucune des photos ne peuvent lui rendre hommage, c'est un endroit qui ... more »There are things where you say "I'm lucky to be able to live this moment", the Aletsch glacier is one of those moments. None of the photos can pay tribute to him, it is a place that lives, that breathes and above all that listens! Our eye cannot realize the importance of this glacier, namely it is 900m deep (so it covers a valley) and if it were to melt, it would allow to give drink to every inhabitant of the Earth for 1 and a half years !!! We climbed the Egghishorn slope (one of the most beautiful apparently) after taking 2 gondolas from Fiesch. Positivepoints: - the sight obviously, this force of nature makes all our senses play but all logically it is the view that is most requested, we could spend hours observing this wonder. - the noise, the wind rushes into this ice corridor or goes down directly from the mountain opposite... and you can hear it! What a beautiful melody. - arrived at the top coming out of the gondola, you can take a small path (15minutes) to have an even nicer view - presence of some tourist elements to "improve" our visual experience... what will please all Instagrammers! - a small restaurant is at the top, at the price, taking into account that it is a restaurant of altitude plus the fact that one is in Switzerland the price remains correct ... but drinking a hot chocolate on the terrace in front of the glacier, it's to be done! Negative points: - the price of gondolas, 45 euros/pers A/R, it's ultra expensive knowing that the first one lasts 10 minutes and the other less than 5 minutes. TO KNOW, it is true that to ignore the 1st gondola is a bad idea (very long and complicated hike) but for the 2nd, you can do without it and finish on foot and thus save money. Yes it's expensive but it's something we'll do that once in our lives and the sight of the glacier quickly makes us forget this inconvenience. €45 for a lifetime souvenir, it's not that expensive after all!
I did a day hike here. The route and the glacier run side by side. Looking down on it was amazing. You could see how much it has decreased over time on the rock face at the far side.
Alstsch glacier can be seen from multiple points. Eggishorn provides beautiful panoramic views of the glacier. Easily accessible by lift from Fiesch. Worth a visit.
