  • We were really impressed from that old 12th century church in almost original shape. It is not often that you find something like that not disturbed by baroque overkill or other painful renovations...  more »
  • This marvelous romanic building is done only with drystone walls. The real name of the Church is St. Nicola di Bari (St. Nicolao is wrong!) It is a very interesting and beautiful place to be visited.....  more »
  • A romanesque jewel in upper Ticino canton. A cluster of rare stone buildings definitely worth visiting. Frescoes and carvings in stone.
  • Magnificent and mystical Romanesque church with a nave, a simplicity and an imposing spirituality and nevertheless very earthly. A place that invites meditation and introversion, because here nothing distracts you. The façade is square and the walls of the nave are twice as long as the façade. The apse is elevated and floor of the apse rests on the eight pillars that support the vaults of the crypt with 3 naves. The final part of the church divided into two parts, with the crypt open towards the nave seems to want to invite the visitor to explore on one side the dark mysteries of the earth and on the other the light and the immensity of the sky. Although it is small, the church transmits to the visitor the impression of an immense space. I never understood why, but I always had the impression of finding myself in a space much bigger than what it objectively is. On the tympanum of the portal is readable the date 1168, however according to the experts the building is probably older and dates back to the ELEVENTH century than to the XII. The baptismal font carved into a single block of granite is also notable.
