Admire the impressive collection of Scandinavian art housed in a historic mansion at Thiel Gallery (Thielska Galleriet). The gallery displays the collection of Ernest Thiel, a wealthy banker and a renowned art enthusiast, and is located inside his former home. The mansion itself is a sight to see, the work of famous architect Ferdinand Boberg, completed in 1907. Inside, next to period furnishings, you can see works of celebrated artists such as Bruno Liljefors, Anders Zorn, and Edvard Munch. In addition to Scandinavian masters, many of whom were Thiel's personal friends, the gallery also displays works of Paul Gauguin and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, while its garden is adorned by Auguste Rodin's sculptures. The mansion is not wheelchair-accessible and features a few staircases which might be difficult to navigate for visitors with reduced mobility. • I called in here mid day mid week, it's has big airy rooms, and smaller more intimate spaces with an eclectic collection of art work. I liked the balance of paintings and sculptures, the different room settings added something to the gallery too. The eating area, is spacious however the place where you pick up your food can get congested very easily if there are more than half a dozen people queuing. Food was nice, good portion sizes. The gardens have some interesting pieces in them too! Will definitely call again.
  • Great little gallery out on Djurgården located in the villa of one of Sweden’s most wealthy financiers at the turn of the last century. It’s not a big gallery so check what visiting exhibitions they have. Beautiful garden.
