Moose Garden, Orrviken

#3 of 10 in Wildlife in Jamtland County
Moose Garden is a tourist company that is located in Orrviken, just outside Östersund. We started in 1997 when we took care of two abandoned moose calves, and thus began our great "moose adventure”.

In the summer of 1999 we got our first calf in the enclosure, while also another idea was born. We started making paper of moose droppings, which aroused great attention from media all over the world. Because of moose droppings consist of pure cellulose its possible to produce an exclusive eco-paper, 100% recyclable.

In autumn 1999, a new dream came true. We acquired a well- preserved agricultural and forestry land with buildings from the 1800s.

Today we can offer accommodation with a beautiful surrounding. We still have a lot of projects that are unexploited, but we are eager to develop and find new paths, so stay tune and follow our journey.

Our facility is based on genuine experiences with a flavor from the cultural of Jamtland. Here you can get in close contact with our moose, watching the world's only production of moose paper, and not least, stay and eat well.

  • We had a lovely visit at Moose Garden. It was exactly 1 hour long (perfect length) and had a funny tour guide. We got to first visit with the baby, John Snow, and watch him have his mid-morning milk.....  more »
  • We had a great time with our tour guide and getting to meet the moose! I was lucky to be asked to bottle feed John (Snow)! He was so adorable. The weather today was nice and cloudy. So the moose were up and about. However the guide had said that in warmer, sunnier weather one could actually sit with the moose or even give them a kiss!
  • A great tour with a funny great guide. You get to know everything there is to know about moose. You can even (under supervision) go into the enclosure to pet these impressive animals. Can recommend!
