Yapahuwa Rock Fortress, Yapahuwa

An amazing place. Have visited here several times never got tired of here. Well preserved..

Highly recommend a visit to this place, was a pleasant surprise for us. Interesting to wander around the ruins at the base, including very very steep stairs to what was the old palace area. It is small, intimate and intriguing and there appears to be more still to uncover in the jungle. The stairs and slight scramble to the top of the hill are worth doing too. Flattish at the top with more small ruins and fantastic 360 views. We went late in the day and we had the place largely to ourselves which was a nice change from other tourist spots. But small and large tourist buses do come here - and there are plenty of stalls selling water, food etc at the base. If you have a vehicle or bicycle, consider driving/riding round road that circles the base of the hill to get a different perspective.
