La Lonja, Zaragoza

4.4
Known as a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, La Lonja was used as a center of commerce, especially for the silk trade. This historic building, built between 1482 and 1548, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Don’t miss the inner courtyard decorated with orange trees, or the twisting stone columns and painted ceilings in the main hall. There are several large halls to discover as you explore. Keep in mind that there isn’t a lot of information offered to visitors here, so hire a guide or do research before you go. • C16th purpose built as a stock exchange, as I understand it. The fan vaulting is phenomenal, but viewing is obstructed by modern furniture for an unsympathetic art exhibition.  more »
