  • After visiting the monastery itself we then wandered across to the Palace of King Sancho, included in the price, and listened to part of a Chopin recital whilst walking through the furnished rooms...  more »

  • The place is quaint but in my opinion it is not worth the money of the ticket to which you have to add more if you want to see the rooms where you will stay' Chopin with the partner, luckily I had found on Groupon a promotion

  • The Palace of King Sancho, was built in 1309 by order of King James II as the residence of his son Sancho to find relief from his asthma disease. It is believed to have built on an old alcázar of a Moorish wall: Mussa, from which the name of Valldemossa would come. Sancho I, known as the Pacific, was the second son of James II and inherited the kingdom after the resignation of his older brother Jaime, who entered the Franciscan order. In 1399, King Martin I of Aragon, called "the Human", ceded all the royal possessions of Valldemossa to the Cartux friars who founded the Cartuja transforming the square of arms into cloister and cemetery, the five halls that were in cells, the prison in refectory, the pantry in sacristy and the kitchen in church. In 1835 it was placed in private hands by the deamortization of Mendizábal, which put on the market, through public auction, the land and non-productive property of the church or religious orders. Currently the Palace of King Sancho, can be visited, like most rooms of the Cartuja and daily, in this place is offered a concert with pieces by the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin.
