Palacio de Galiana, Toledo

4.8
The Palacio de Galiana is a palace in Toledo, Spain, on the borders of the Tagus River. It was built on the site of an earlier summer villa and garden of Al-Mamun, the king of the Taifa of Toledo, in the thirteenth century by king Alphonso X.
The garden area around the palace, called the 'Al-Munya al-Na‘ura' or 'Huerta del Rey' included a botanical garden of the pharmacologist Ibn al-Wafid. It was famous for its irrigation works, the ruins of which are still to be seen.
The garden was also, possibly, the location of a water clock, constructed by Al-Zarqali.
From the 1950s onwards the Palacio de Galiana was restored and its present garden designed by the architects Manuel Gómez Moreno and Fernando Chueca Goitía under the auspices of its owner Carmen Marañón.

  • I went go there long way from opposite part of center because I saw few pictures in internet and palacio look really great. Gate was opened, no information in English, I went there. In palacio women inside screemed for me in Spanish something. She cant absolutelly basics English words. She sent me away. It was really big problem to go around for 1 minute and to take few photos. You should learn English and SHAME!!!!
  • Spectacular! Ideal for holding events. I was at a wedding and it was fantastic. The best thing about being summer, it wasn't hot and there wasn't a single mosquito.
