#36 of 157 in Things to do in Toledo
An integral piece of Toledo’s historic center, Ayuntamiento de Toledo offers visitors an example of stunning architectural evolution. Located directly across from Toledo’s cathedral, the town hall was originally constructed in 1575, and was modified over the following centuries according to many different styles. Its facade and symmetrical spires look out over the gardens and flowerbeds out front. Marvel at its stone arches, and appreciate the work of the many architects who worked on the town hall throughout its history. Bring your camera, as standing in front of the building allows for a great view of the church spire opposite. The area open to the public also contains a tourist office that provides maps and further information about the city. Our Toledo road trip site makes visiting Ayuntamiento de Toledo and other Toledo attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Building of the XVII century, Herreriano style, which is located in front of the cathedral and next to the archbishop's palace. The grandeur of the adjoining buildings overshadow the beauty of the Town Hall

  • The Consistorial House of Toledo, is located in the historic center, in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where there are also other emblematic buildings such as the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace, and the Casa del Dean, setting up a beautiful architectural complex. The building has its origins in the fourteenth century and already in the time of the Catholic Monarchs had its importance these Consistorial Houses. At the end of the sixteenth century the current building began on another Mudejar there and from which its facade is preserved, Later, between 1690 and 1703, the last and definitive reform was made by adding another floor to the towers, which had been flat, and crowned with the present Baroque spires,. The construction of this building was attended by famous architects such as Juan de Herrera, Nicolás Vergara, the son of the Greco, José Manuel Theotocópulis and Teodoro Ardemans. The square really has its charm, but it lacks what is left to other monumental Spanish cities: bars, cafes and restaurants where you can contemplate from its terraces such magnificent surroundings.
