Capilla de los Marineros, Seville

4.7
Located conveniently close to the canal, Capilla de los Marineros was built as a Catholic church for sailors. Though constructed in 1759, French occupation saw the church secularized--it served as a warehouse, Anglican church, and theater before being converted back to its original purpose in 1953. Step inside the small, white, Baroque building to admire its ornate gilded altar. The dazzling structure features an image of Virgen de la Esperanza, the patron saint of Triana sailors and an important part of the city's Semama Santa celebrations. • The rivalry between the devotees of the Macarena and those of the Hope of Triana is known in this chapel. It is true that this chapel is simpler than the church of the Macarena, but the image of Hope is really beautiful and a must if you go to Seville. You can also admire the size of the Most Holy Christ of the Three Falls. Highly recommended.

  • While we are talking about a discreet construction located between two houses and that could go unnoticed, this chapel probably houses one of the most popular signs not only in Triana but in the city of Seville itself: the Hope of Triana and next to she the Christ of the Falls. Art, faith, beauty, respect, gathering, prayer, culture,.... they may be some of the words with which to describe what the images you find in the chapel represent and that in turn synthesize the religious feeling in Seville. Essential if you visit the city.

  • A wonderful place in Seville that we accidentally got caught up in the middle of a procession in May that was dedicated to our Lady. Very moving experience.
  • 2 euro contribution to the entrance. The aim is the restoration of the works contained in the Church. In return I had the material to appreciate what I was looking at. Absolutely well spent. A beautiful church with a small museum attached.
