As the home of the famous 17th-century Virgin of Hope wooden statue, Basilica de la Macarena draws its fair share of visitors. Most come for the morning procession on Good Friday--the largest of its kind in Spain--but you can view the statue any time of year. Once inside the Neobaroque church, head to the main altar to see the statue. It sits surrounded by silver and gold with a small display of pictures and artifacts that show the statue’s significance to Holy Week. La Macarena is revered highly by Sevillanos, so don’t be surprised if locals try to push you toward the exits during mass. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Seville holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Basilica de la Macarena and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Petite basilique dans le quartier de la Macarena, celle ci est très pittoresque et tellement différentes des autres. Tout en peintures et dorures et que dire de la vierge qui trône au centre de la nef... more »A small basilica in the Macarena district, this one is very picturesque and so different from the others. All in paintings and gilding and what about the virgin who sits in the center of the nave Do not hesitate to go home and visit this free basilica and you can pass behind the virgin to contemplate it and see the basilica in another view. What can you say, when a song rises from the Sevillians singing their rod, that they open the doors, you enjoy this magical moment whatever your confession. To put a candle, you have to buy it at the shop next door and you place it on the forecourt in a dedicated place. If you have been to Latin America, you will find this fervor and luster.
Simply stunning. As others have noted it is off the main tourist area but nevertheless is well worth the effort to visit. Just look at the photos posted for this beautiful place.
