Plaza Cervantes - Santiago, Santiago de Compostela

Nestled among winding granite streets, Plaza Cervantes - Santiago stands at the center of Santiago's ancient historic district. The historic plaza served as a town meeting place, judicial center, and marketplace before being christened Plaza Cervantes in the 19th century. A bust of the author stands tall atop the central fountain, overlooking the lively square. Today you'll find cafes with outdoor seating, a bookstore, an ice cream shop, and Santiago residents enjoying the day in the sun. The Camino de Santiago passes through this square, which makes it a great place to stop for a tapa and watch the pilgrims on their way into the city. • This old square was one of many you find in Santiago de Compostela and this one is had some degree of atmosphere with a number of bars and cafes around its perimeter and just adjacent to Plaza Fonseca...  more »
  • Another one of those "squares that doesn't look like a square" to us Brazilians, because there are no gardens, no green, no benches. On the other hand, has a bust honing Miguel de Cervantes (Do I need to tell who was Miguel de Cervantes? I don't think so, it's not giant... Or was it a windmill? With the word: "Sancho Pança") and also in this square is the church of San Bieito do Campo ". This space, place or square (as you prefer to call it) is full of stories and histories for the Pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela. But I'm not going to tell you. Come on, ask them and let them tell you themselves...
