Monte do Gozo, Santiago de Compostela

Monte do Gozo, or Hill of Joy, is the hill where pilgrims on the Way of St. James catch the first glimpse of their destination, the Cathedral of Santiago. Statues of pilgrims pointing the way stand at the top of the hill, inviting you to take a photo with them. There's an albergue, or hostel, for pilgrims wishing to rest before making the final leg of their journey to the cathedral. There's a small church here, as well as a few coffee shops where you can grab refreshments to enjoy with your view. • Every time I was on Monte do Gozo he was doing the French Way, and it is always a joy to get there. The monument is a little sloppy, although it's now fenced i guess to clean it up. In the surroundings is very nice, a lot of park although they are also under construction. Highly recommended.

  • A very nice place to go for a mountain run, in the area of the congress palace. Long climb but ideal for training trail running

  • Cool, but the cathedral is a little too far away.
  • The area felt completely unlooked after there was a security fence around the statue and everything looked shabby.
