Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Galicia / Province of A Coruna / Santiago de Compostela / Monasterio de San Martin Pinario
A Benedictine monastery, Monasterio de San Martin Pinario is the second-largest religious structure in Santiago, and has been largely rebuilt so that little of the original structure remains. Look for the cloisters inside the church, as well as the altarpiece that tells the stories of Benedictine saints. The gardens are especially peaceful: you can have some tea or read a book there. Modern rooms and facilities are available for those who wish to stay overnight at the monastery.
From this huge old monastery we visited the church and the adjoining spaces. If you think you have seen everything in Spain now in the area of overwhelming baroque, golden curls, angels in all poses, working with perspective, come here again... There are also varying exhibitions, sometimes very different in nature.
Lógicamente después de la catedral es visita obligada. Esta justo situado detrás de la catedral. Cogimos la visita con guía y la verdad es que vale la pena. La visita es más completa, ves más lugares,... more »Logically after the cathedral is a must. It is located just behind the cathedral. We took the tour with a guide and the truth is that it is worth it. The visit is more complete, you see more places, and you find out things that would otherwise go unnoticed. The monastery is also large, grandiose, spectacular both in its dimensions and in its altarpieces. The jewel, from my point of view, the seating made of walnut. And do not miss the seating of the Cathedral of Santiago q which is located in the high choir. In addition to the apothecary, very well preserved. Don't miss this monumental monastery.
Facade was really beautiful and impressive but inside was a bit disappointing as it just looked so ordinary. It was a pity, really. Because it was raining, there were not too many people, which was definitely great for those like to take picture with no/minimum number of people ;)
