Palacio de La Magdalena, Santander

4.5
A former seasonal residence of the Spanish royal family, Palacio de La Magdalena contains numerous fine paintings by Spanish painters and offers vistas out onto the sea from the top of the Magdalena Peninsula. The best way to see the 20th-century palace is on a tour. The reception rooms in particular impress, and note the the curiously designed student dormitories--which were originally stables--built in a medieval English style. Take a moment to greet the penguins and seals in the small marine enclosure near the entrance. To visit Palacio de La Magdalena on your trip to Santander, use our Santander trip app .

  • A unique site, both for the bellezs itself and where it is located. It is surrounded by a beautiful park and a magnificent view. The building itself is a luxury and, for what they were or are spectators of "Great Hotel", it is a separate feeling. Truly unmissable.

  • We caught a bus (number 1 or 2) and had easy lunch nearby as site was closed until 4pm. However on reaching the Magdalena Palace - walking through pretty gardens - we found the building closed to visi...  more »

  • Wonderful palace! It’s huge and so beautiful, you can walk totally free here and if you want there are guided tours to visit inside also. I believe you can also celebrate you wedding here (maybe I’m wrong, just saw one wedding couple there with photo session). Definitely have to be visited place. P.S. you can walk here with dog, it’s not a problem
  • Palace at the heart of a very scenic walk. It was closed when I was here, but the area itself is more than worthy of a visit. The scenery is beautiful and there are a lot of different views from the bay to the lighthouses. The area is free to explore as well and is a must visit if in Santander. It's not far from the main attractions of the city either.
