Colonia Guell Gaudi Crypt
Located only 20 minutes outside of Barcelona, Colonia Guell Gaudi Crypt is a must-see for fans of Antoni Gaudí, or anyone interested in surreal architecture. Work on the church began in 1890, funded by Count Eusebi de Güell, but his financial problems prevented its completion and only the crypt was finished. Here, Gaudí pioneered many of the techniques he would later use in the Sagrada Familia. He created an inverse model of the church by hanging birdshot from a network of strings, allowing him to discover the correct curvature for the pillars and arches. This allowed him to construct the naves without buttresses or supporting walls. Lose yourself inside the structure, which blends in seamlessly with the surrounding hills. Admire the rough-hewn stone columns and stained glass windows while enjoying the audio tour that comes with your visit. Loved this place and the little city, it’s definitely a bit out of the way, but convenient by train! I’d recommend getting the audio guide for an extra euro, ticket totaling 9€ to get in with the audio guide. The audio guide also takes you on a little tour of the town as well, which showcases some pretty interesting building facades.

What an amazing place that is constructed using the art of the pine trees that are around it. Beautiful painted glass and a ton of history in the building. Make this a part of your trip to Barcelona. It's good to have about an hour or two to traverse the whole area and see the different floors and walk the local park.
