Convento de las Duenas, Salamanca

4.6
Enter a tranquil courtyard and view pentagonal cloisters with intricately carved stone pillars at Convento de las Duenas. Stroll through the peaceful rose garden, or explore the rooms of religious artwork. Learn about Sister Teresa Chikaba, a West African woman who lived as a slave in Madrid for a decade before being allowed to join the convent in the mid 17th century. Try the pastries sold by the sisters--they're almost more famous than the cloisters. • If you go to Salamanca you have to go to this convent, go up to the first floor and admire the coffered ceiling, and at the end of the visit, do not forget to buy the sweets that the cloistered nuns sell. Delicious

  • The visit to this convent is a must. It is an old palace donated to the Dominican Sisters, which is distinguished by its architecture and courtyards and gardens. In addition, the sisters have a shop where they sell souvenirs and the sweet salmannins they prepare.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Try to get in early enough to avoid crowds to appreciate its real serenity. Have to wonder what nuns made of all the writhing forms represented by stone carvings.
  • Breathtaking sculptures in the first floor arcades of the beautifully gardened claustro, with great views to the catedral n clerecia. A must!
