Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Balearic Islands / Majorca / Palma de Mallorca / Catedral de Mallorca
Standing proudly in the middle of the city, Catedral de Mallorca is a Gothic building with sandstone walls and flying buttresses that seemingly rise right out of the sea. Dominating over its surroundings, the building is 121 m (397 ft) long and 55 m (180 ft) wide and was constructed on a massive scale. Designed in the Catalan Gothic style, with numerous Northern European elements, the cathedral was begun in 1229 on the site of a pre-existing mosque, but finished only in 1601. Famed architect Antoni Gaudí participated in a renovation project at the beginning of the 20th century. Managing to complete only a few of his grand ideas, Gaudí quarreled with the contractors, then suddenly abandoned the project. Nevertheless, this vast cathedral remains a major architectural landmark well worth visiting. Catedral de Mallorca Reviews
By far the most iconic representation of Mallorca. The surrounding area boasts of cafes and kiosks and that distinctive flair of Spain. more »

Myself, I got a little extra for some with beautiful painted and adorned walls, among other things depicting fish, this was what I found most unique and here I stood for a long time. It has quite limited opening hours, closed Sundays and closes early (at 16 I think it was) even on weekdays which I experienced as more limited than in many other countries. In the surrounding area you can find the beach, some shops and a different attraction.
Lovely cathedral. Worth visiting inside. We didn't buy tickets online, just waited at the door and purchased them. Went on a Tuesday at 1pm and the line was only a couple minutes long. €8 pp. There's a free toilet inside as well. If you drive there's a parking garage off the highway next to the water. You exit right by the fountain and then can walk up to the cathedral and take in the view. There's a lot of tourist trap stuff there but no one in your face. The view on the way up is worth it and it's not much of a climb. We ended walking around the center after so overall about 3 hours of parking cost about €7.30. There's a machine you have to pay before you get to your car so take your ticket with you.
So big and beautiful! Get the audio guide if you want a more comprehensive tour. It was only an hour long. The outside was amazing! And some interesting artistic choices inside. There's a modern piece inside this centuries old church that makes you look twice and applaud the forward thinkers. And the Gaudí altar piece.. wow
