  • Discover the entrance, not so famous as Compostela's but also a wonderful piece of art. Original paint is preserved.  more »
  • Quite a surprise. We were recommended to visit from the Hotel we were in and it was a marvel and a pleasant surprise.

  • The western Portico of the cathedral, it was assumed that by him never was accessed to the temple until the end of the TWENTIETH century, when they built the stairs that give to him from the Plaza of San Martín, in 1981. Supposedly finished in the early 13TH century, it has sometimes been despised as a bad copy of the Portico of Compostela Glory, of which no doubt is debtor, but not copied. Distributed in three parts that coincide with the ships, the iconographic program is simpler than in Santiago, with the Final Judgement represented in the central portico. Almost everything has been lost From him, as it was reformed in the 16TH century. The polychromy is from the EIGHTEENTH century. The lateral columns Are medieval and, in the Archivolt, the twenty-four elders of the Apocalypse. On the left side, the Old Testament, is represented four prophets; From left to right, Jonah, Daniel, Ezekiel and Isaiah – in this place, in Santiago, is Moses – as can be read in his phylacteries and book. On the other side, as representatives of the New Testament, four apostles, from left to right, Peter, Paul, James, and John. On them, the capitals are decorated with fantastic animals and, above all, the dead, resurrected, alone or led by Angels, are headed towards the central part, where Christ presided over the Final Judgement. The structural problems of the portico forced a reform in the 16TH century that is observed in the central part of the portico and also on its right side, where the tower was extended, placing the two apostles on the most extreme side in the new wall, under niches in form of typical venerations of the XVI. It is also the arches that hold the central eardrum, where the scene of St. Martin-the cathedral's owner-was placed, leaving his cloak to give it to the poor. Under him, a tondo with the bust of God the Father. In The mullion was placed an image of the Apostle Santiago, seated, showing an open book. On it, an image of the Virgin of consolation and, crowning the Mullion, its original capital, which depicts the temptations of Christ by the Devil.
