Faunia, Madrid

3.1
#1 of 6 in Wildlife in Madrid
Faunia, a botanical garden and zoo covering 14 hectares (35 acres), actually feels smaller and more interactive than a typical zoo. You’ll find all types of animals here, but highlights include an black agouti, several varieties of penguins, and a bat enclosure. Zookeepers give informative talks about manatees, Komodo dragons, and wallabies. Check the official website to see if an event coincides with your visit. The majority of installations are covered, so it’s a comfortable stop on both sunny and rainy days. Faunia is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Madrid Edition.

  • It is a very good zoo set. It does not have the variety of animals that the Madrid zoo has, but it is logical, it is smaller. Since in all this type of zoos there are animals that you don't see, I don't think this is a negative point. And much better to go in spring or autumn, the animals are more active. The spectacle of marine mammals is impressive and varied (we have gone several times and it has been different). The staff we agreed with were very friendly and nice. We take food from home, they don't search the backpacks. We went by transport, the metro is 10-15 minutes walk, but we saw that the parking is 5'50 o We would definitely repeat.

  • The park's fine. There are different environments (jungle, poisonous animals, nocturnal animals,...). The children loved it. The best: Animals look much better than in the zoo and there are many types of animals but small ones. There are no large giraffes or rhinos, but there are penguins, crocodiles, spiders, butterflies, etc. There is also a dinosaur zone (obviously lying) that children have loved. The show of sea lions highly recommended. Fun and short-lived (so kids don't get heavy). There are meadows where you can sit down to eat, it's very nice. They give you a map when you enter and in the app you can watch the shows that are and the map on your mobile. If you take tickets with a week or more you save a buck. To go by the m40 is very well signposted although right at the last roundabout is missing a sign but more or less you see it. The worst: The exit has been chaos. We've been circling for half an hour to find out where to go. After that when we finally got out and got to the car we realized that we had not paid for the parking (we have not seen the machines) but we have called at the barrier and we have been opened (that we have saved). There should be more signs inside the park indicating the exit (not just the different environments) as it is a bit of a maze.

  • Not particularly well signposted from the nearest Metro stop, obviously most people drive here. But it's worth a visit if you like zoos/animals. You'll get closer to animals here than most other zoos. From Lemurs to Kangaroos you can get right up close and personal. Nicely laid out, with some indoor and underground sections to get you out of the sun. It's not a very big area but you'll probably spend a good 2hrs or more here. Very quiet during August when we visited and unfortunately most of the restaurant areas were closed.
  • I love this place to come with children. It doesn’t feel like the traditional zoo, but more like a theme park. It’s full of exotic animals and shows over the day. It’s a great place to let children learn and love animals than normally the would never see.
