Caldera de Taburiente National Park, La Palma

Not actually formed by a meteor impact like a crater, Caldera de Taburiente National Park looks the part regardless. It measures 10 km (6 mi) across and 2 km (1.25 mi) deep. It has history, too: the indigenous inhabitants of the Canary Islands, the Guanches, made their last stand here. Both pine and the endangered local Juniper form the park’s forest. You’ll find a dozen or more hiking routes crisscrossing the terrain.
