Winery / Vineyard · Hidden Gem · Food & Drink
In 1979 Carles Pastrana and Mariona Jarque recovered the family winemaking tradition and started off on a long adventure aimed to rescue the old Carthusian wines in the heart of the lands that were once under the dominion of the priors of Scala Dei, a monastery located in the Catalan region of El Priorat. Carles and Mariona created the properties of Clos de l’Obac and Miserere, replanting vines along the banks of the river Siurana in the southern pre-coastal area of Catalonia, and established the Clos de l’Obac Winery. They began to make their first wines in 1989, reaching an important milestone when the World Wine Guide declared CLOS DE L’OBAC to be one of the world’s 150 best wines.

  • Beautiful wines and the owners, some of the original 5 winemakers that kicked off modern Priorat wine making, still host guests themselves. The Clos de L'Obac 2007 is a 5 out 5 wine for me.  more »
  • Wow - almost speechless after an incredible day at Clos de L’Obac. My husband and I were greeted by the owner, Carles, and given a wonderful tour and history lesson - which was fascinating. Afterward, we had an incredible tasting that will go down as one of our most favorite and special experiences. Just sitting and speaking with Carles, getting to know him, hearing about his wonderful family, and the heart and soul they put into their winery was amazing. Such a special winery led by wonderful people. Before we left we also got to meet his wonderful wine and co-owner Mariona, who was lovely. Oh and how could forget - their wines were absolutely fabulous! What a wonderful day that we will never forget. Thank you, Carles and Mariona!
