On top of a 38 m (125 ft) hill stands the . The castle was originally built in 956 CE, although most of what stands today was built by the Almoravides in the 12th century. Walk around the ruins and imagine what life would have been like here over the centuries. Climb the towers and be granted superb views of the sea and surrounding countryside. Visit the small museum to learn more about the history of the castle. There is a steep walk up to the site.   • Walked here. Good two mile stroll from our hotel. Approached by modern pedestrian bridge across a river. Castle walls intact after renovations. Inside there are remnants of internal rooms and some...  more »
  • A really nice looking castle in the distance of the Playa de Santa Amalia and pedestrian bridge leading up to it. We didn't go inside but can imagine the views are good and well worth a walk down to.....  more »

  • Only appears to be open on Sundays due to the shows and events being held in and around it. A lot of work has been done in the last few years to conserve and restore, and it is possible to walk around the battlements and cannon battery. A bit of a climb but well worth the effort
