La Granja de Esporles, Esporles

#7 of 56 in Museums in Majorca
Specialty Museum · Museum
Perched in the foothills of the Tramontana mountains, La Granja de Esporles is a working 17th-century farm and estate. The site passed through the hands of the Romans, Moors, feudal Christians, and the Cisterian monks before its acquisition by its current owners, the Fortuny family. Today, it exists as a living museum of traditional Mallorcan culture and craftsmanship. Inside, you will find carefully preserved antique furnishings and craftsmen at work in trades such as blacksmithing, Spanish grasswork, and tanning. A stroll through the gardens reveals elm trees, fragrant rosemary, a 9.1 m (30 ft) natural spring, and local animals like the Mallorca goat and black pig. Don't forget to sample the traditional Mallorcan fig bread, bunnelos, and fig and apricot jams made on site. • Fantastic day out. A really interesting museum with great food and wine tasting at the end. The old house and the natural springs around it have a really peaceful feel to them. It's easy to imagine living like nobility in a different era surrounded be nature in this amazing place. Very exciting dungeons form the inquisition too. The 5 Yr old in our group was particularly keen on the torture chamber. 😊 Definitely worth the drive out.
