Often described as an unforgettable beauty, Monasterio de Sant Pere de Rodes is a 10th century monastery that stands watch over the sea. The structure is somewhat ruined, with just columns and the foundation intact, but the remaining portions still offer a striking visual. A modest museum on site offers more details and history about the area. There are plenty of chances for great photos, as you’ll find yourself high in the mountains surrounded by aromatic trees, with mist rising from the sea. There’s also a cafe here when you need refreshment. • Visit in the morning. Very well restored, very spectacular and very interesting. Explanations by well-made headphones. A must-see!

  • Under the Benedictine rule (ora et labora) an influential center of power was developed in the Middle Ages. The guided tour led us to tour - and understand - the main spaces of the complex. The beautiful old stones maintain their appeal before our eyes. The basilical church is impressive. A jewel of Catalan Romanesque. And yes, the views are also magnificent (port de la Selva i Llanca bays, north of Cape Creus).

  • High quality self-guided tour (audio) of well-restored monastery. As a bonus, hike to the fort (25 min) for the best panoramic view within 200 km
  • Incredibly well rebuilt/restored monastery on the mountain overlooking Cadaques. Audio guides are included and highly recommended to get a good idea of what you are looking at. Most original painting and decorations are gone but a few very old partial frescoes and statues remain. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Astounding piece of preserved history. About a 10-15 minute walk from the upper parking in the sun (before 6pm) so bring water.
