Castillo de Colomares, Benalmadena

#1 of 6 in Historic Sites in Benalmadena
Castle · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Surprisingly, builders broke ground on Castillo de Colomares in 1987 and finished in 1994. Rather than a castle of antiquity, it is an homage to Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the New World, and at 1,500 sq m (16,000 sq ft), the largest such monument. Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, and Mudéjar styles combine with Christian, Jewish, and Muslim influences in the architecture. Inside, explore educational exhibits about the discovery. Take a bus or taxi from the train station, as the steep walk up can be strenuous. • It is just so pretty, unbelievable that it isn't an ancient building and the views from the viewpoint are stunning. Like something you see in an adventure movie.  more »
  • Looks like a magical castle from a fairytale inspired by Gaudi. Nice walking around, climbing up stairs in the different towers. Ansolutely well worth a visit. Entrance is 2,50 euros for adults.  more »
  • amazing place, worth visiting, cool designed and made, one part was closed probably the most attractive, beautiful view of the waterfront. no store, just what they have with drinks, toilet very modest lack of closures, cleanliness gives a lot to think about. garden care great. we were with the family so we had to please everyone, the service was very nice.
  • Smaller in real life than it looks in a photo. Beautiful building and links to history were great. Reasonable price, just €2.50 pp. The gent on the counter was fluent in any languages as he asked people where they were from and spoke in there younger #impressed. However got a little stumped when we saucer were from Wales! 😂 most parts of the building were open but main castle was closed and when asked he said that part of the castle is never open! Easy to walk to but you have to follow your visual clues as I didn't see many signs posted. Worth a visit but don't expect to be there all day... or half a day...or a quarter of a day!
