Castle Of Loarre, Aragon

Described by UNESCO as "undoubtably the best castle in all of Aragon," Castle Of Loarre held a strategic position on the frontier between Christian and Muslim lands. Built largely during the 11th and 12th centuries, the castle is very well-preserved, and underwent major restorations in the 20th century. Explore its large walls, numerous towers, and enclosed Church of San Pedro. Of its three towers, the "Tower of the Queen" is particularly noteworthy for its set of twin-arched windows, which have been attributed to Lombard and Mozarabic architectural forms. Film buffs might recognize the castle from its appearance in the 2005 epic "Kingdom of Heaven." • Without a doubt, the best preserved medieval castle in Spain. As it was abdonted at a remote time in a mountain area, it has undergone few changes over time. After this nest of eagles it is easy to place yourself in the place of those mountaineers, warriors and medievals, seeing with greed the extensive fertile plain of Bolea, and beyond the Hoya de Huesca and the valley of the Ebro, ready to assail it and conquer it. The guide's service is exceptional.

  • Highly recommended visit if you like castles, the enclave in which it is located makes it more special, providing unbeatable panoramic views. Visit with the possibility of being guided (6o, but 4.5) which I recommend, guided and outdoor tour by free. Day around 1 hour. Look at schedules on your website to square with group. Guided tour. It also includes a visit to loarre Church. If you square to eat I recommend rufino house in bolea, a nearby village

  • Spanish castles are a sight for sore eyes. They’re very well taken care of and genuinely beautiful to look at. If you’re in the area, definitely pop in and take a look. Better with car.
  • A beautiful and old castle that is steeped in history. The castle itself is very cold so I suggest to rug up before venturing out. We had a tour guide who was very helpful and knowledgeable of the castle. Would recommend visiting the castle if you are in nearby Huesca.
