Originally constructed in the late 9th century, the castle features a series of fortress walls atop Mount Benacantil and is home to the city’s historical museum. Explore archeological remains of the Bronze Age found in the city or take a guided castle tour to see areas normally closed to the public, such as the cisterns and dungeon. Ride the elevator from the bottom of the mountain to the castle, then enjoy a leisurely walk back to the city center after your visit. Castillo de Santa Barbara Reviews
We enjoyed walking around this medieval castle and the video, which tried to shed light on its history. I wish the sound of the video were not so garbled - I would have learned more. more »
Het is degoutant dat mijn vriendin die in een rolstoel zit, moet betalen om de lift naar boven te nemen. Eenmaal boven was het wel mooi, maar niet handig met een rolstoel. more »It is degoutant that my girlfriend sitting in a wheelchair has to pay to take the lift up. Once above it was pretty, but not handy with a wheelchair.
I have to say that it it’s one of the most amazing views I have ever seen. This fortress takes you to the medieval times, or even gives you the feeling of being in a movie. Guess what? It’s absolutely free, no tickets to visit it something that blew my mind, in Spain to even enter in a cathedral you will have to pay 5€. Well done Alicante... many other towns should follow you example.
This was really great! So beautiful, and very interesting! We took the elevator up at night when there was absolutely no lines, and then we walk down after they closed, it was a very pretty walk
