Just outside of Pajara, you'll find the caves and black lava sands of Cuevas de Ajuy. This ancient fishing village is the site where Bethencourt disembarked to conquer the island for Spain in 1402. Enjoy freshly caught fish at one of the small restaurants on the beach, or have a drink at the bar up on the hill and enjoy expansive Atlantic views. While the waves are impressive to watch, swimming here isn't recommended because of the strong undertow. Don't miss a visit to the caves, free of charge and just a short walk up the path from the beach. Wear shoes with a good grip because the steps can be slippery. If you can walk, this is a beautiful place to go to Fuerteventura. I think it's best to rent a car to take your time. The waves that come to hit the rocks relentlessly, what a force! It is essential to continue the trail to "caleta negra" where you will descend into a huge cave. From this cave there is a passage through the rocks (easy passage) that leads to a second cave just as superb. You'll come back stunned. Grilled local fish is super delicious and service is super nice and friendly.

Yummy seafood and other typical specialities. Close to the beach. Also the smallest bathroom I've ever seen.
