Must see · World heritage site · Religious Site · Historic Site
The head temple complex of Jogye Korean Buddhism, Bulguksa Temple features two exquisite stone pagodas and a gilded bronze statue of Buddha, which earned it World Heritage Site status. This impressive temple complex set in a picturesque landscape stores some of the world's oldest woodblock prints, made in the first half of the 8th century. Stroll underneath cherry trees and azaleas, place a pebble in a rock garden or touch a pig statue for good luck, and visit a hermitage in the grotto to see burial mounds and a 3.5 m (11.5 ft) tall Buddha. English-speaking volunteer guides will tell you all about the temple's tumultuous history. Discover how to plan a Gyeongju trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

  • We visited this site to get a little more experience on the cultural front and it was really good. Very reasonable prices and well laid out with signage in various languages including English.  more »
  • Once you get to the Bulgaksa Temple be prepared to be awed by the ancient architecture. It is very well preserved and the beauty of the buildings are very nice to observe. The walk is a long stretch.....  more »

  • It was impressive for me to look around there. It was calm and peaceful. There are a lot of trees and ancient Buddhism buildings. it makes me relaxed. Entrance fee is 5,000won.
  • A pretty area, but the educational material was light and almost none had translation. Most of the museum exhibits were reproductions or from other countries. It is pretty expensive by Korean museum standards. You pay for parking. Unlike many other temples in Korea, this one seems to be a lot more focused on being an active Buddhists temple.
