Ride on a double-track railway through the underground tunnels of Postojna Cave and see colorful rock formations, as well as the 100 species that make the caves their home. One of the largest caves in the extensive karst plateau features 21 km (13 mi) of passages, galleries, and chambers illuminated by electric lighting. A historical train takes you to large halls adorned with chandelier-like stalactites and limestone "sculptures," such as "the brilliant," a shiny white limestone formation. Meet the olm, a salamander popularly called the dragon's offspring or the human fish. Archduke Ferdinand I was the first to officially visit the cave in 1819, but several writings on the cave walls date all the way back to the 13th century. Note that audioguides are available in a range of languages. Discover how to plan a Postojna trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

The cost of the entrance fee is about 25.00 euros and it is best to book online to avoid running into endless queues. The room is very humid with a constant temperature at 10 degrees Celsius and dripping from the ceiling, so better to equip yourself with a hooded jacket. The guided tour, which lasts about 1.5 hours, starts and ends on board a scenic train and just before the exit you can see in a case the Proteo, a native species of salamander. There are bars, restaurants and souvenir shops in the area.
One of the best place to visit in Slovenia. Equally enjoyable for both children and adults. You can purchase tickets online easily and faster. Best experience in lifetime. Also you can buy souvenir items which are available at a reasonable price. Cave system will rail access is just wonderful. Guided tour is really informative and you have it in different languages too. Overall it was the best experience.
Touristy - yes. Breathtaking, also a strong yes. I have been there twice, some ten years ago and in August 2019. What an amazing cave, they are very efficient and well organized - although the big crowd you get a very good tour.
