Idrija is a town located in western Slovenia and its varied cultural, technical and natural heritage give unique and authentic local identity of Idrija’s local community and offers countless opportunities for sightseeing, exploration and relaxation.

In 2012 Idrija was inscribed in the UNESCO heritage list following over half a millennium of mercury mining that significantly shaped the life of Idrijan society, and which nowadays is open to the public. For centuries woman have been making beautiful bobbin lace, adding a distinctive and highly valued contribution to modest mine vogue. In June each year, Idrija celebrates this tradition with the Idrija Lace Festival, which is a single biggest event in the town. Also known for its nationally famous dumplings called Idrija žlikrofi, Idrija and its surroundings is ideal for hiking and biking due to the unspoiled nature, crystal clear waters, geological and natural uniqueness and the warm and welcoming locals.

Idrija Heritage Centre is the umbrella organisation co-ordinating Idrija’s heritage and tourism programme. Through the Idrija Tourism Information Centre it also provides services as an incoming travel agency offering inside knowledge and organizing different packages for Idrija and wider Slovenia.
