Považský hrad is a ruin of medieval castle on the right side of the river Váh, near Považská Bystrica in Slovakia. It is thought to be the essential part of silhouette of Považie and Upper Váh region especially. It is built on a cliff 497 meters above sea level. It was one of the most important castles guarding the valley of the river Váh. At the peak of its fame it was home of around 400 people. It is famously known as an "eagles nest" of the important noble family of Podmanitzky.

A fine historical castle currently undergoing extensive restoration works.Quite a steep hill to climb to reach the castle ruins.Well worth every effort.The views from the top most viewing balcony are.... more »

Good for families with children 2+ yo. Still under construction, it will take long time to restore something that was forgotten for such a period of time. Worth it to see. There is marvelous view!

Nice partly restoret historical castle on the clif above river Vah. Simple to get there. 30 minutes hike from little free carpark. Suitable for children.
