Strategically situated on a cliff above the confluence of two important rivers, Devin Castle bears evidence of prehistoric settlements as well as Roman and medieval ruins. The fortification walls encircle a landscape of open courtyards, staircases, and towers in uneven states of repair. Look for the small watchtower called the Maiden Tower balancing on a sole rock. Legend has it that many imprisoned lovesick daughters plunged to their deaths from this tower. See the foundations and the tiny model of the first Christian church north of the Danube. The castle houses a museum exhibiting archaeological objects and offers a range of outdoor activities, such as boat rides, hiking trails, and horseback riding. The upper castle has been closed to the public since 2008, due to reconstruction. What a fantastic experience for people of all ages. ‘The Castle’ is a set of ruins, and are really beautiful to behold. The whole place is well maintained with stunning views and good pathways. The small museum at the top is very interesting. The castle won’t take more than an hour to tour. There are lovely little restaurants at the bottom of the hill - get yourself a bratwurst or schnitzel after! - and a lovely little river walk around the edge of the hill which takes you past the Velvet Revolution monument.

We went on a Saturday. There were activities for adults and kids, shows, great food and drinks, and animals. Staff were dressed in traditional clothes, showing how things were made traditionally, really felt like you were there 500 years ago. Castle itself had good views and the caves had some cool relics. The castle itself is obvious greatly destroyed so not a lot to see in that regard.
