Anse Intendance, Mahe Island

Must see · Beach · Nature / Park
A remote spot nestled on the southwest of the island, Anse Intendance offers wild, pristine beach tranquility. Follow the mangrove-lined jungle path past the one nearby resort, to white powdered sands and corner after corner of sun-kissed seclusion. Swimming is not advised from June to September due to strong currents, although the lack of reef does attract daring surfers throughout the year. The beach has few nearby facilities, so pack a picnic and plenty of water. • As others have said, this is probably our favourite beach on Mahe. That said, you need to be aware of the lack of shade in the afternoon. You also need to note the strong currents and big waves...  more »
  • This beach is very dangerous for swimming, undertow is so strong, it knocks you over. Baie Lazar much safer. Also lots of theft here. A policeman was patrolling the beach warning everyone.  more »
  • Large beach, not suitable for swimming due to strong waves and currents. There isn’t much shadow around, so most people stay at the front row of palms and bushes near the parking. But you have to care care of the turtles, since the area is a designated breeding area. We were lucky to see a baby turtle: a Ranger found it with an injury on her eye and was about to take it to some turtle sanctuary. At The northern part of the beach there’s the banyan tree hotel. In October 2020 it was closed (corona) and it was really spooky wandering around the deserted villas and the empty pools... The beach bar was open though and it also looked thousands times better than the rum shack (the hotel bar): enjoy here some cold Seybrew and coconuts
  • Powder-fine white sand, the thickly-vegetated mountain backdrop, the perfect turquoise water, and the imposing granite formations make Anse Intendance a real postcard image. The incredible beauty of the location makes it no wonder that Anse Intendance is, for many, one of the most breathtaking beaches in the Seychelles.
