Grand Anse, La Digue Island

4.7
#2 of 31 in Things to do in La Digue Island
Must see · Beach · Nature / Park
Lying on the southeast coast of the island, Grand Anse appeals with its wild and remote surroundings--a contrast to some of its more accessible neighbors. As the island's longest beach, it offers plenty of space to find a quiet spot in which to bask in the sun, looking out across the bright hues of the water. Bring plenty of refreshments and ideally some shade, due to the lack of facilities. Strong currents during monsoon season (April through October) can make swimming here dangerous, so be careful and pay attention to the warning signs. Grand Anse is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , world travel planner Edition.

  • My wife and I were on a bike ride one day, it had rained profusely the previous day. So it happened to be humid and not quite pleasant this particular day. But our bike ride took place mostly through the woods, so the overhanging canopy was a welcome sight. We came across this path, it was slightly more muddy than I care to deal with. So she scoped it out. Boy, was I glad that she did!!! This beach was hands down the best beach that I've ever seen in my life!!! This isn't hyperbole, it is simply the truth. We spent MANY hours just hanging out here. The water is crystal clear, and you can walk out during the day close to 100 yards or so. All other beaches that I encounter for the rest of my life will be judged by this one right here. Absolutely brilliant.
  • Amazing beach, crystal clear turquoise water and very fine sand (literally your feet sink in the sand). However, waves are intense and you cannot swim in some seasons (Aug couldnt swim). The walk from anse source d’argent to grand anse was super nice but long with some elevation
