Al Masjid an Nabawi, Medina

Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Built on the site of the Prophet Muhammad's second mosque after his move to the city in 622 CE, Al Masjid an Nabawi is one of the holiest sites in Islam and a major destination for religious pilgrimage. Originally an open-air structure that contained a house of worship, court, school, and community center, the mosque has expanded and now includes a vast marble courtyard, white walls enclosing massive prayer rooms, several spindly minarets, and a large green dome over the tomb of the Prophet. Dress modestly and look closely at the design details for secret symbols inserted by the architects. • It was a strange feeling to be turned away from entering Babussalam and visiting Raudah but that is the price to pay for the community safety and health's sake. We pray that Allah lifts the pandemic....  more »
  • Visiting in this hard pandemic time, there's not much visitor and also Rawdah is closed for safety, it's somewhat sad but I understand it's necessary to be done. The mosque is so beautiful and huge.  more »

  • The most serene place for your soul Amazing place to relax and calm your soul religiously. Beautiful and clean mosque. Rare pieces of structures, columns and artwork through out the mosque. Familiarize yourself with the gate numbers. So those who are staying at gate 6 or something like those numbers have to walk a lot. But no problem for men as they may enter anytime. Mosque is open 24 hours and welcomes you openly st any time of the day n night. Keep a prayer mat handy and slippers in your bag as you May pray at any corner on floors and it will be helpful. Wearing masks are recommended to stay safe from viruses and germs. You will love this place.
  • It is one of the most sacred places for Muslims. So it really spiritually satisfying to be there. Everything is very neat. People are helpful. One should be careful with the children as it gets quite crowded during prayer times. There are nice places to eat and shop at the periphery of the mosque.
